This book collects the results of the archaeological excavation campaigns conducted by the Università degli Studi di Perugia in Gubbio’s “Guastuglia” district. The work provides readers with a detailed analysis of a proto-imperial sanctuary, the only one hitherto known in Iguvium, plausibly located on one of the short sides of the Forum in the heart of the ancient city. The volume is divided into three sections. The first focuses on issues of historical topography and investigates the public monuments and private buildings of the Roman period. Attention is also paid to relations with other towns in the area. The chapters in the second section concern: the architecture of the sanctuary; the stratigraphic contexts connected to the foundation, renovation and abandonment of the monumental complex; the epigraphic documentation. The final part of the book proposes a hermeneutical discussion of the deity to which the cult was dedicated.
