The function of dogma in the spiritual life : an analysis of John Henry Newman’s unique contribution
The author concentrates his work on the uniquerole that dogma occupies in the spiritual life andhow this contribute to the spiritual theology. The book consists of five chapters. The first describes the traditional union of spirituality and dogma. The second chapter offers the reasons for consulting Newman on this question. Chapter three provides the framework within wich to appreciate the particular place of dogma. The four analyzes how dogma arouses, deepens, and protects the spirituallife. Finally, chapter five dimonstrates Newman’s gift for integrating “abstract” dogma in to “tangible” spirituality.
