The Ming Qing Studies 2012 issue consists of two volumes. The first volume focuses mainly on Chinese minorities and peripheral areas (Tommaso Previato’s “The Salars of Xunhua: a Muslim enclave in the heart of China”; Ma Xiaoxi’s “The Descendants of the Mongolian general Matutaer in Jingshan located in Henan Province”; Cristiana Turini’s “Naxi in the Ming and Qing dynasties”; “Study on the Development of the Tuntian System in northern Xinjiang during the Qing Dynasty” by Zhang Anfu and Alessandra Cappelletti). Two articles deal with female poets in the Ming and Qing periods (Kang-i Sun Chang’s “The Literary Voice of Widow Poets in the Ming and Qing” and Zhu Qiujuan’s “An Analysis of the Emotional Friendship Poems in Ming-Qing China”). Others articles are Peng Hsiao Ping and Chang Ming Chung, in “The Foundations of China’s Inward-oriented Policies from the Perspective of the Adam Smith’s Political Economy”, Isaac Yue’s “The Gendered Discourse of the Chinese Courtesan in ‘Du Shiniang Sinks Her Jewel Box in Resentment’”, and Zhang Zhiyan’s “Emotion in Early Modern England and Late Imperial China, with a Focus on Emotion in Shakespeare’s Plays and Ming-Qing Literature”. The second volume presents the second part of Santangelo’s article from the previous issue Ming Qing Studies 2011, “Liaozhai Zhiyi and Zibuyu: two precious Qing sources on mentality and imagery”, and it contains “The Glossary on Liaozhai Zhiyi Chapter three and Zibuyu Chapter one”, with the terms concerning states of mind and imagery of the above two chapters.
