La Santissima Trinità in Monte Oliveto : storia, architettura e arte di un monastero vallombrosano nella Verona medievale
The monastery of the Santissima Trinità in Monte Oliveto was founded at the turn of the 11th century on a small hill at the gates of Verona. At the beginning of the following century, the ecclesiastical complex was acquired by the Vallombrosan monks, who arrived in the city from central Italy thanks to the fundamental contribution of Matilde di Canossa and the major Abbots of the Order, Bernardo degli Uberti and Atto da Pistoia, in the midst of the Church Reform. The institution thus became a strategic outpost of Roman obedience in an episcopal centre traditionally inclined towards imperial authority. This volume, thanks to the contribution of scholars from different disciplinary fields and considering the most updated research perspectives, provides a new critical interpretation of the historical, archaeological, architectural, artistic, and conservational events that saw the Veronese monument as the protagonist, from its foundation to the dawn of the modern age.
