Odo of Cheriton’s fables, written in 13th century England and preserved in 72 manuscripts copied in several countries, are one of the most wide-spread Latin tale collections of the Middle Ages. Translated three times into the vernacular (once in French, once in Spanish and once in Welsh), this collection stands apart for its morals, which often feature precise categories of men and vices as targets. This new critical edition is also provided with an Italian translation and a short commentary that points out Odo’s sources and his gnomic references.
